Draco Malfoy knew what it felt like to be prey; recognized the terror in his chest like home, knew that when faced with the aching truth, he would never stay and fight. He would fly.
And Hermione Granger would begin her hunt.
She found him easily, she always did.
“[The dynamics are] complicated. A non-linear progress… It becomes a lot more opaque what the right thing to do is, and who should, if anyone should, end up with each other. It’s not as straightforward as one of them wants to be with the other; it’s far more complex, and all of the characters see it as a complex conundrum.” — Phil Dunster on Jamie’s Relationships With Roy and Keeley in Season 3

Neville Longbottom married Pansy Parkinson on a bright summer day, the air thick with warmth and magic; glittering flowers and overflowing champagne. A perfect day, undoubtedly the event of the season.
Hermione Granger spent the reception hiding behind a very large plant.
After the war, returning to Hogwarts seemed like an obvious choice — finishing her education was all that mattered, now. Harry was safe, Ron was seen; for the first time, Hermione was granted permission to do something she wanted, only for herself.

[image id: a four-page comic. it is titled “immortality” after the poem by clare harner (more popularly known as “do not stand at my grave and weep”). the first page shows paleontologists digging up fossils at a dig. it reads, “do not stand at my grave and weep. i am not there. i do not sleep.” page two features several prehistoric creatures living in the wild. not featured but notable, each have modern descendants: horses, cetaceans, horsetail plants, and crocodilians. it reads, “i am a thousand winds that blow. i am the diamond glints on snow. i am the sunlight on ripened grain. i am the gentle autumn rain.” the third page shows archaeopteryx in the treetops and the skies, then a modern museum-goer reading the placard on a fossil display. it reads, “when you awaken in the morning’s hush, i am the swift uplifting rush, of quiet birds in circled flight. i am the soft stars that shine at night. do not stand at my grave and cry.” the fourth page shows a chicken in a field. it reads, “i am not there. i did not die” / end id]

At Ginny Weasley’s 25th birthday party, Hermione found out 2 things:
1. Ron was dating Theo, which was an uneventful reveal (“No gasps?” Theo complained, “I almost got the mark! I’m dangerous!”).
2. Pansy had invited Draco Malfoy.
And he had shown up.
